Recently a friend of mine was put into a situation where they felt pressured to do something that she didn’t want to. It got me thinking about how to be okay with saying no. How to be okay with your self, so I came up with a few things that might help with being okay with yourself.
1. Do what makes you happy. If you do something consciously knowing that you don’t want to do and have the choice to not do it, then don’t. For example, if a you feel that you should eat a cookie just because its on the table in front of you with your name on it, doesn’t mean you need to. It won’t change time and space either way but its little things like that, that can make a difference in how you feel at the end of the day
2. Look in the mirror and point out the good things. Everyone has something beautiful about them and you should be able to see it too. I look in the mirror every morning before I do my makeup and I try to point out three good things about myself, even if its the simple fact of hey that one pimple went away, or look I my dark circles aren’t as bad.
3. Surround yourself with people you love. If you are trying to be friends with someone even though they aren’t the best person in the world, you are wasting time when you could be laughing until you can’t breathe with someone you actually fit with. Making new friends is fun but if you don’t click right away with a person then there is no reason to waste time trying to start a friendship.
4. Don’t compare yourself to people. There will always be people better at things than you and people worse than you. You could be really good at sports but not good at playing instrument. But someone else could the the other way around. If you judge a fish based on its ability to climb a tree then it will life its whole life thinking they are stupid.
I hope this helps in some way even if its just a little bit. No one wakes up one day and loves every bit of them even though it would be nice if it worked that way. Everyone can wake up and feel a little bit more okay with different aspects of who you are. I think that everyone is beautiful, so just be you even if its the only thing you do today.
